You would have made perfect sense to expect the LA Rams offense to score many points in the Week 5 away game against the Seattle Seahawks. In fact, everyone with one of the worst defenses in the NFL meeting Thursday night expected a high-scoring affair. But during the break, the rams came down by four when the scoreboard read: LA Rams 3 Seattle Seahawks 7.
And it was not even close to the strangest parts of this one.
In the first half, the offense seemed to be in bad shape. Three points, an interception and a field goal were all that the offense could generate. Fortunately, the Seattle Seahawks also splashed. They had a stroke, turnover on setbacks, an interception, a touchdown and a missed field goal on their part.
It was only when the LA Rams got a 68-yard pass to DeSean Jackson on their first possession that seemed to bring the Rams’ offense back on track. The Rams finished the drive with a five-yard touchdown run for Darrell Henderson to go up with a score of 9-7. You see, place kicker Matt Gay missed that extra point.
Sometimes a missed extra point comes back to haunt a team. But that was not the case in this one. From the moment Jackson came back to catch the deep pass, the timing of the offense seemed to be reset, and suddenly the rams were able to move the chains, drive down the field and put points up on the board.
The Rams scored three touchdowns in the second half en route to victory.
The Rams had several players shaking during the match. Running back Darrell Henderson and tight end Tyler Higbee both seemed to injure their left arm / shoulder in the first half, but both returned to play in the second half.
Quarterback Matthew Stafford appeared to hurt the index finger of his throwing hand, but he remained in the game and the Rams changed his bandage twice to help Stafford throw comfortably. Darious Williams left the game in the fourth quarter due to a suspected concussion caused when teammate Taylor Rapp knelt in his helmet as the game ended.
The Rams now have 10 days to rest before traveling across the country to face the New York Giants on October 17th.
