Former Miss UK Kirsty Bertarelli has reportedly earned the title of the richest British-born divorcee in history after splitting from her husband Ernesto Bertarelli.

“It is with sadness that Ernesto and Kirsty Bertarelli confirm that they are divorced,” a spokesman for the couple said Daily mail.

“The decision was a joint one and the separation amicable.”

The model and songwriter and the Italian-born business magnate had been married for 21 years and shared three children together.

They were jointly listed in 14th place this year Sunday Times Rich List with an estimated total fortune of £ 9.2 billion (approximately $ 17 billion).

Although the couple has not commented on the size of the payout, has Daily mail understands it to be £ 350 million, which equates to almost $ 652 million.

This payout would make Kirsty the richest British-born divorcee in Britain’s legal history and even richer than Queen Elizabeth, whose personal fortune is £ 365 million ($ 680 million), according to the publication.

In addition to the payout, the former beauty queen has reportedly been given a house on Lake Geneva in Switzerland, bought this year for £ 52 million ($ 97 million). She also owns an £ 8 million ($ 15 million) cabin in the Swiss ski resort of Gstaad.

“The settlement was more generous than it should be,” one of Kirsty’s friends told Daily mail, “They did not want a long, lengthy trial in Switzerland, and he would recognize the length of their marriage.”

She was represented by Baroness (Fiona) Shackleton, the lawyer who represented Prince Charles and Sir Paul McCartney in their divorce. She is believed to have signed a marriage contract before marrying the Italian – born tycoon in 2000.

After being the second runner-up to Miss World in 1988, she began a career in songwriting, best known for her song ‘Black Coffee’ performed by All Saints, which became a worldwide hit in 2000.

“So many people just wanted to go out on their yacht and spend their lives drinking champagne, but not me,” she told the Daily Mail earlier: “You should understand life. Singing has been inside me my whole life and I can do not give up. “

Both Kirsty and Ernesto are asking for privacy after their divorce, according to a spokesman.

“All issues arising from the divorce have been settled and they would respectfully ask for privacy for their entire family at this time. As this is a private matter, there will be no further comment.”
