Washington is home to a bunch of atmospheric rooftop terraces. Lady Bird is ready to soar to the top. The soaring bar and lounge on top of Dupont Circle’s new Kimpton Banneker Hotel opens Friday, Oct. 8, with views of the White House and Washington Monument, cocktails and snacks befitting a socialite (such as First Lady namesake Claudia Alta “Lady Bird” Johnson).

The outdoor terrace is heated with fireplaces.

The 1,200 square meter space is designed for all seasons with an indoor / outdoor layout and movable glass walls, umbrellas for sunny days, fireplaces for cool evenings and space for live entertainment. Design elements and textiles around the U-shaped bar and lounge nod to the color and spotted pattern of DC’s official bird, the thrush.

The U-shaped bar takes design cues from DC’s official bird, the thrush.

Chef Laurent Hollaender, who also manages the French restaurant Le Sel below, is behind the menu of hors d’oeuvres. Guests can snack on goat cheese beignets, elaborate cheese and charcuterie trays and heirlooms with tomato tartare. Drinks match the cocktail party atmosphere, whether you still feel summery (caipirinhas, new-wave pina coladas) or are ready to embrace autumn with a sparkling bourbon Bramble with blackberry liqueur and ginger beer.

Lady Bird. 1315 16th St., NW. Open Tuesday to Saturday from 16:00 to midnight.
