Canberra enters its ninth week of lockdown, with another week until the restrictions are due to start lifting on October 15th. On Friday, ACT registered 40 new cases with 21 related to known cases, the remaining 19 under early investigation. By 8pm Thursday night, 16 people were in the hospital, six on the ICU and five on ventilators. Nearly 97 percent of Canberran’s 12+ have had a dose, while 70 percent are fully vaccinated. Two babies are being cared for in a pediatric COVID ward, and five are in quarantine due to special care at Centenary Hospital for Women and Children. Additional funding has been announced for schools. $ 5.7 million goes to ventilation, tutoring, masks and more. Immunocompromised Australians want access to booster jabs. The lockdown in NSW ends on Monday, but the NSW Nurses’ Union has asked people to be careful as they are concerned that hospitals may be congested.
