Liverpool would ‘nurture’ Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham better than Manchester United, Manchester City or Chelsea according to Glen Johnson.

The highly regarded 18-year-old switched from Championship side Birmingham City to Dortmund last July with a £ 25m deal, with the German club beating the likes of United, Chelsea and Bayern Munich to his signature.

Bellingham has gone from strength to strength in the Bundesliga, at the same time as he has become a regular for England, and is once again said to be on the radar of a host of Premier League clubs.

Recent reports have claimed that United are leading the race – more than a year and a half after Sir Alex Ferguson gave the midfielder a tour of the club’s training complex in March 2020.

But ex-Liverpool, Chelsea and England full-back Johnson feels Bellingham would feel better at Anfield as Jurgen Klopp’s ‘smaller squad’ would ease the pressure on him.

When asked which club would help his development best between Liverpool, City, United and Chelsea, Johnson told ‘I would probably say Liverpool.

Although Liverpool have superstar players, they also have a smaller team, and they do not have these superstar players sitting on their bench and knocking on the door, so it is easier to keep the squad happy.

‘If Jude were to move to Liverpool, then I think they can take better care of him than his other suitors and will give him more time as that is what he will need.

‘If he was going to Chelsea or Manchester City and did not appear immediately, the pressure would immediately be on him and he would be stepped aside and someone else would come in and take his place.

‘Liverpool’s smaller team would help him in that sense.’
