Marco Verratti would be the ultimate piece of the puzzle for Solskjærs United

Ashley Young spoke this week to talk about a dream signing for Manchester United: Marco Verratti.

Quoted by The Mail, speaks to BBC Five Live, United’s former full-back felt the Euro 2020 winner would be the ideal long-term replacement for Michael Carrick — a void the club has not been able to fill since retiring in 2018.

Young said: ” I saw PSG against the City match yesterday and I think Marco Verratti is the closest and no one has gone out to test the waters to try to sign him. I think that he would be an incredible signing for Manchester United. “

Our need for a holding midfielder can not be denied, and Verratti is one of the few players who can control every game he plays.

Despite having Neymar, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe, it is Verratti who often stands out for PSG and is their unsung hero.

Big match pedigree

In the European Championship final despite going very early in extra time, Verratti had collected 133 touches, only Giorgio Chiellini (134) and Leonardo Bonucci (141), who both played a full 120 minutes, had more (WhoScored).

No player created as many chances as Verratti (2) in the final. It was the biggest stage in world football, but the 28-year-old was calmly personified.

Although Verratti is almost flawless in possession, only Declan Rice (6) won more tackles than Verratti (5), highlighting his ability to sniff out the danger and set a challenge in winning the ball back for his team.

The Italian does not avoid a physical match and always offers himself as an opportunity for a teammate.

He is a man for the big occasion, and if he stays in shape this season, Mauricio Pochettino’s side has a great chance of finally winning the Champions League.

Verratti – a united dream

Having Verratti is like seeing an orchestra, he never panics and is always in control. He has an incredible belief in himself and has a vision to punish any team.

He will take the ball in any situation, no matter how many opponents are around him.

Ole Gunnar Solskjær says he wants his players to instill United ethos in their games – risk and hard work.

There is no respect for Fred and Scott McTominay – they both work incredibly hard, but have neither the reach nor the technical qualities that Verratti possesses – but few do.

Some will say he is too small for the Premier League and he would be bullied, but you have to get close to him first.

Verratti is so good that he could easily have joined Barcelona’s big Pep Guardiola team along with Xavi, Andreas Iniesta and Sergio Busquets.

United need the player who can gel the rest of the team together. We have a formidable front line and our best defense for years, but in the middle we look lost.

Paul Pogba’s own future hangs in the balance, but having the Frenchman and Bruno Fernandes with Verratti can make us unstoppable.

Verratti is that man. But playing for Paris Saint Germain’s wealth and having a certain agent named Mino Raiola makes any possible deal the limits of the impossible.

But you never know, Verratti could well win the Champions League for the first time with PSG this season and then wish for a new challenge.

If that were the case, like Ashley Young said, we should go and “test the waters to try and sign him” because he could turn this team from potential challengers into heavy favorites.

Alternatives that match Verratti’s style

Since it is still difficult that we could actually manage to award Verratti, we have looked at players who play in a similar style and possibly can be significantly cheaper.

Nicolo Barella is more of an attacking midfielder than his Italian team-mate, but given Inter Milan’s financial struggles that led them to part ways with Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku this summer, it may be necessary to sanction further sales.

The 24-year-old has one goal and five assists from seven Serie A games this season.

Barella may attack more than Verratti, but he is just as diligent out of possession.

Speaking of clubs that are in financial trouble, Barcelona had a summer of torment, but they still have one of football’s most talented prospects in Pedri.

Although he is in the early stages of his career and may be reluctant to leave, United and many other clubs could very well test Barcelona’s determination with regard to Pedri if it gets worse at the Nou Camp.

Like Verratti, the 18-year-old can do it all in midfield and is destined to become a star for the next 15 years.

Ajax’s ability to continue producing world-class talent will never falter, and the latest to emerge from the conveyor belt is Ryan Gravenberch.

As the jury is still in doubt as to whether Donny van de Beek’s move from Amsterdam to Old Trafford will prove to be a success, we would be forgiven for starting negotiations with the Dutch giants with a sense of anxiety.

But as a 19-year-old and 6 feet 2 inches, Gravenberch seems to be following in the footsteps of van de beek, Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs
de Ligt, and ensure a large money step. The big problem is a well known one, his agent is Mino Raiola.

Over eight Eredivisie matches this season, the Dutch international wins an average of 1.9 tackles per game. Match and 1.8 air duels per. Kamp (WhoScored).

He also has an average of 2.1 shots, 1.6 key passes and 3.3 dribbles per. Match. He is a young man with lots of talent who knows both sides of the game.

As his current contract expires in June 2023, Ajax may be tempted to deposit their valuable asset.

Verratti would be the dream, but there are other talented central midfielders who would improve United significantly and the club should reach out to find the right player to solve an ongoing dilemma.
