New York Comic Con returns in person at the Jacob Javits Center – CBS New York

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – New York Comic Con has made a comeback in the Big Apple. After a virtual event last year, fans were back Thursday at the Jacob Javits Center for a festival celebrating comic book culture.

Through Sunday, New York City will be home to a mix of cultures, from comics to cosplay, manga to video games. For an entire culture, the characters present were typical, CBS2’s Steve Overmyer reported.

“Getting back to normal. I think there are fewer people than last year, I mean the year before. I mean, last year was like a mindset, ”said one fan.

It’s a self-proclaimed “nerd party”. It’s not just a costume party. The event floor is full of unique merchandise and panels with celebrities.

Everyone should be vaccinated and masks should always be worn, but for the quantity at hand it was not a problem.

“It’s a little creepy with the masks, but I think we’ll get used to it the next few days and still make the best of it,” said one fan.

“It does not matter as long as you have fun. I have a picture today with George Tekai, so it’s really great, ”said another fan.

The demand for a mask did not bother New Jersey native David Crownson, who went from comic Con fan to comic book tool either. He showed CBS2’s Jenna DeAngelis some of his works.

“It feels great to actually have face time with people,” Crownson said. “This is my cartoon, ‘Harriet Tubman Demon Slayer.’ We sold out of number 1 today. We had to place an order to get more books. ”

There is an inner nerd in all of us and it welcomes all people and foreign things.

“I just met one of the creators of my favorite web numbers, so it was a great experience,” said one fan.

Some costumes are original. Overmyer met “Ricky Recharge”, a walking battery.

“I have been doing this for about 10 years. It takes about three months to do this, ”said the tab.

“I want to see costumes. We always dress up every year. It’s about cosplay that you have to have fun and become the character, ”said another.

As DeAngelis reported, others appeared in more recognizable clothing.

“I’m dressed as ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage,” Mendel said, referring to the legendary professional wrestler. “I’m a nerd. I love all this. You can be yourself, dress up and be ridiculous, and no one cares. It is fun.”

Kassandra Rodriguez and Konstantine Makrygiannis came as Michelle Pfeiffer’s “Catwoman” and Heath Ledger’s “Joker”, respectively.

For four days you can go down the rabbit hole and arouse the wonder we once had as children. There is no need to feel like an oddball. In fact, the more peculiar, the better.

It is also planned to come with “Star Trek” star Williams Shatner, actor David Harbor from “Stranger Things” and Hayden Christensen from “Star Wars”.
