A popular indoor trampoline park in inner Sydney has closed its doors for good, with owners blaming rising costs and difficulty finding suitable insurance for the decision.

Sky Zone Australia in Alexandria will not reopen when the restrictions for COVID-19 ease on Monday, while its Brisbane facility closes later this year.

The store sent an e-mail to customers on Friday, announcing with “deep grief” that the company in Alexandria was permanently closed.

“Over the past seven years, we have welcomed millions of jumpers to our venue and hosted thousands of children’s birthday parties,” the e-mail reads.

“Add to that our Little Leaper program and fitness classes, we are proud to have been able to create many memorable and fun moments for families in Sydney.”

In a statement, entertainment company Funlab, owner of Sky Zone Australia, accused “rapidly rising costs and significantly reduced availability of insurance for trampoline parks” of its decision to close the sites.

It said Sky Zone’s other facility in MacGregor, south of Brisbane, would close on December 19. The two sites were equipped with trampolines, climbing walls and obstacles, and the site in Queensland includes an indoor laser roof arena with three floors.

“We would like to thank the millions of jumpers who have visited us over the last seven years since opening, as well as the amazing staff who have worked during this time to deliver amazing experiences for guests of all ages on our Sky Zone locations, “Funlab CEO Michael Schrieber said in the statement.

“Although it is a sad day for us to announce these closures, we are already looking forward to launching a fantastic new concept in the Alexandria area in 2022 that will bring a new and innovative experience for our many loyal customers in the area. We can not wait to publish more information soon, so guests can look forward to a new kind of fun, which our venues are synonymous with. ”
