The Toronto Raptors could have felt pretty solid about their chances of competing after bulldozing the Philadelphia 76ers in their opening season. Unfortunately, it all took a game for Joel Embiid and Toronto’s Atlantic rivals to assert themselves at home in Philadelphia.
The Raptors fell 125-113 in a game that didn’t feel as close as the end result indicated, as they made a bit of a comeback while the game was already settled. The lockdown defense that helped Toronto take a win home earlier in the preseason plan did not look right.
The Raptors have seen some players impress both fans and coaches with their play at both ends of the floor, but it has not been perfect. Some players can not keep their heads too high after some uneven matches.
It’s time to play stockbroker and analyze the Toronto Raptors ’market. Which players have momentum in their backs and which players have to do everything to get back in things before the season starts?
Stock Up, Stock Down for the Toronto Raptors after 2 preseason games.
Stock up: OG Anunoby
Anunoby started developing into a bigger offensive piece last season, and by the time Kyle Lowry was gone, it looks like his emergence as a true star at that end is approaching. Based on what we’ve seen in the preseason, OG is well on its way to becoming one of the better Raptors on this site.
Anunoby led Toronto to score in both games and piled up 22 in Thursday’s loss. The way he gets these points, which includes more offensive creation, dribble shooting and finishing inside, should get fans excited about what they can do when the matches start counting.
AND Anunoby is starting to show the Toronto Raptors its star potential.
Anunoby has improved its points per. Game averages each season since joining the league, and if the preseason is an indication of the role he will play in this offense, the average will be 15.9 points per game. Games he collected last year are likely to be topped by what he writers this season.
Pascal Siakam and Chris Boucher are both improving right now, meaning Toronto will roll into the regular season without three of their top six scorers from last year. AND looks more than capable of reinforcing this role both early in the season and further down the line.
