The show’s producers arranged flights for the couple, which Kirsty said were timed ‘beautifully’.

‘I came home to my nan’s driveway literally at the same time as the funeral had arrived to pick her up,’ she said.

The dramatic scenes were captured by the camera crew of the reality TV show.

Akers took a phone call at the construction site when she suddenly broke down in hysterical tears.

‘Oh. Oh God!’ she cried before turning to the man Jesse Anderson and burying her face against his chest.

A confused Jesse, 33, wrapped his arms around Kirsty as he tried to gather what had just happened.

‘Honey, what’s wrong? What’s wrong, honey? What happened, honey? ‘an increasingly frantic Jesse asked her and became even more emotional.

‘Nan died,’ Kirsty sobbed as Jesse hugged her tightly.

Jesse said the news of her death had come ‘out of the blue’, with the couple deciding to fly home to New South Wales to be with their family.

An emotional Jesse told their construction workers that they would be away ‘for a few days’, while the supportive crew told them they had the situation ‘covered’.

‘I’m just devastated that she did not get to see us because she was just looking forward to it,’ Kirsty added.
