Goals win matches – that’s a fact.

Sometimes fantastic saves ensure a victory and the goalkeeper really gets the praise they deserve.

However, it is not often that a tackle grabs the headlines.

If you search on YouTube for ‘Bobby Moore’ and ‘tackle’ – you will see one of the most famous pieces of defense ever, as English legends prevent a Brazilian Jairzinho as he tried to pass him at speed in the field.

Last weekend, however, our Spanish midfielder Rodri made a tackle that was simply unique – ‘the tackle of the century’ perhaps?

With only a few moments left, a ball in City field cleared Ederson and his defenders and fell to the unmarked Fabinho to the left of the six-yard field.

He controlled the ball and had an open goal to aim for as the City defense were unable to recover – it was a pressure and the traveling fans behind the goal were just waiting for Anfield to break out with what was definitely would be the winning goal.

Fabinho could not miss, and as he went to complete what seemed like a formality, Rodri started towards the ball and somehow managed to time his move perfectly and clear the danger.

He ensured City took a deserved point back on the M62 and the look on the Liverpool players’ faces said it all.

It looked impossible, but somehow Rodri succeeded, and commentator Ally Mann claimed it was “the tackle of the century.”

There have been other magnificent finish lines, over the years, so here is a collection of the best from the last 20 years or so – of course with Rodris.
