CAULFIELD

Race 9 No. 11 – I’m Thunderstruck
I’m Thunderstruck (11) was fantastic race 3rd in G1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) last start after passing 400m in 16. He does not have to escape straight from here from barrier four and the climb to the mile should not bother him. He meets Sierra Sue 3.5 kg better for a 0.6 L margin last start.

RANDWICK

Race 6 No. 3 -Kiku
Kiku (3) was very good during his fall campaign and got a promising return on Rosehill. She was held up behind horses early in the straight before finishing well in sixth place. She took the G3 Carbine out of this track / ride this fall.

Race 2 No. 3 – Palazzo Spirit
Palazzo Spirit (3) opened the favorite last week and was scratched due to the awkward draw. I like that they saved him for this. He is drawn perfectly in gate 4, and although test form is not everything and ends all, the horse he beat with 3L in his latest test Heroic Son – won with 1.25L at Doomben last week. We know there are so many unknowns with 2YOs – especially the first starters – but I’m eager to back this guy up.

Race 8 No. 3 – Tiger Of Malay
Tiger Of Malay enters this fourth-up after finishing 5th in the G1 Golden Rose (1400m), beating 2.11L. He had his chance there but ran well when he got back on tour and they really went along with a decent clip. He maps a soft run on the leader’s back – probably the lightsaber – and Williams jumps back on board after riding him twice for a win and a third. He has previously ridden this ride for a third in G1 JJ Atkins when he gave a great start. With the exception of mishaps from the interior marble, he should be in goal.

Craig Williams (57kg)

3yoC (ch) Extreme Choice x Sambar

RANDWICK

Race 1 No. 7 -Mikado
Mikado (7) will make his own luck on the go. He was a winner on Coffs to-back, giving a good kick early in the straight and had a margin of 1.46 L on the line. He then went to Brisbane where he made it hard out three-wide and did well to finish within 1L of the winner in a blank finish (only 1.8L separated first to ninth).

Jeff Penza (56 kg)
Joanne Hardy
4yoG (b) Exceed and Excel x Antillanca

Race 3 No. 5 – Spanish Angels
Happy to play Spanish angels (5) every way at double digit odds. She won an attempt that led to this, finishing 0.75L ahead of Shalook (9). I admit that the sample form is not the most reliable, but since Shalook has opened the favorite, I am happy to be with Spanish angels at a much better price.

Taylor Marshall (56.5kg)
Les Ross
2yoF (b) Sidestep x Maxy Legs
