The Los Angeles Lakers signed Trevor Ariza to a minimum contract in the offseason and reunited with the player who first made his name in the league by winning a championship in LA. It was exciting when he signed again with the team, but Laker fans will have to wait to see his debut in purple and gold.

Ariza underwent surgery on her right ankle and will be re-evaluated in a further eight weeks. Ariza is going to miss at least a month and a half of the normal season, and it would not be surprising if it were more.

We’ve already broken down how this injury highlights a mistake out of season that the Lakers committed in not bringing out another power.

However, the Los Angeles Lakers may call one of two players to try to resolve this issue.

There is no power forward that is worth the Los Angeles Lakers time in the free-agent market. However, the team can still add wing depth, which is now badly needed with Ariza’s injury.

The Lakers have an open roster that is presumably saved for a season move. However, that does not limit the team from signing anyone now. They could always agree to a partially guaranteed deal or simply waive the player in mid-season and take the tax.

They probably do not, as the billion-dollar franchise is paying close attention to the tax, but they could. There is definitely room for the Lakers to add one of those two players, and after Ariza’s injury, Rob Pelinka should call them.
