Apple began this month to include 7-day free AppleCare + coverage with new products purchased through its stores in Australia, including any new Mac, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV, AirPods, HomePod mini and more. The free coverage is automatically included in the purchase of a qualified new Apple product.

The add-on was brought to our attention today by MacRumors reader Jack Jacobs, but based on recent updates to the terms and conditions of AppleCare + in Australia, it looks like the change was implemented last week, September 30th.

The free AppleCare + period provides the same coverage as a paid AppleCare + plan, including coverage for up to two incidents in the event of accidental damage under the Terms. After the free coverage expires, customers can purchase AppleCare + as a one-time purchase or monthly.

It is unclear why Apple implemented this change, but it may relate to strong warranty protections under Australian consumer law. The free AppleCare + coverage is not available in the US or other countries that we have checked.
