“Do not let these people enter or around your home.”
The city of Ottawa has warned residents to be vigilant against scammers posing as inspectors.
This means that individuals pose as city staff who go from door to door and request to inspect water and sewer infrastructure inside the home, the city wrote in a press release on Thursday.
“Do not let these people enter or around your home,” the statement said.
The city reminded residents that its employees always drive in vehicles marked with the Ottawa logo, and access to the home is always planned in advance except in emergencies.
City employees do not contact residents to sell products or services, the city added, and they always have identification that residents have the right to ask to see.
The city said to call 311 to report suspicious visits or calls or to discuss concerns.
