A 12-year-old dog named Dave is still waiting to be adopted, after spending over a year being overlooked at Manchester Dogs Home.
The crossing arrived as a stray and has unfortunately had little interest in rehousing him, which the rescue attributes to his old age.
But the rescue hopes potential owners will realize that ‘there is life in the old gentleman yet’ as the senior puppy still has plenty to offer.
In a statement written from Dave’s perspective on the Manchester Dogs Home website, he said ‘:
“As a 12-year-old, I am set in my ways. I know what I want from life and being told what to do and feeling forced into situations is not on that list.
“When I take my age into account, it is understandable that I can sometimes be startled by sudden movements and my space is invaded.
That’s why I’m looking for a laid back retirement home where I can just be myself. No visitors in and out and no children. I just want to relax. ”
Despite his age, Dave still loves daily walks as it allows him to leave the kennel environment, which he unfortunately has not yet adapted to.
He also loves to play with squeaky toys, and although he has not learned to share, he is still fond of other dogs to the rescue.
He has lots of four-legged friends that he likes to go for walks and play with, although when he has had enough, he appreciates his alone time.
He also has a particular interest in human food, so adopters will have to get used to Dave needing a serving of what you eat.
While it may take a while to adjust to his new life, when he feels comfortable, he can agree to hugs and kisses – and he may even give you a few back!
A spokesman for Manchester Dogs Home said: “Dave needs a quiet home and someone with patience who lets Dave be Dave but at the same time sets boundaries for him.”
