Contractors have been hired by the Gosport Borough Council to repair the mechanism that allows boats above a certain height to pass.
Built as a millennium project, the bridge provides pedestrians and cyclists passage across Forton Lake.

Councilor Cllr Graham Burgess said: ‘We understand the importance of the bridge to local residents and businesses and we are sad that issues relating to the lifting equipment have taken a long time to resolve.
‘The work requires specialist knowledge to be carried out safely and the pandemic has delayed our plans.
‘However, we are working hard on the repairs now and hope that the mechanism will be operational before the end of the month, unless unforeseen problems arise.’
The bridge will be closed from Monday 18 October to Friday 22 October between 8.30 and 16.30.
During these times, there will be no access across the bridge and residents will be asked to use alternative routes that will be put up signs to inform people about the closures.
