Today we talk to QMS Media GM – City of Sydney, Jemma Enright.
Time in current role / time in the company:
How would you describe what the company does?
We help brands become memorable through the power of quality, high-efficiency, digital from-home advertising.
What do you do daily?
I lead the brand new City of Sydney street furniture advertising offer, so every day I work on packaging, pricing, proposal development and consulting with key stakeholders and customers.
Define your job in one word:
I started marketing because:
I’m wildly curious about how people think, feel and act, and marketing is one of the best industries for exploring weird human things.
What is the biggest challenge you face in your role?
Managing the enthusiasm and expectations of the sales team and customers while the massive program of rolling out the City of Sydney network continues. It’s a big project!
What is the biggest industry-wide challenge you would like to see solved?
Trust and transparency. As an industry, we must continue to set high standards for ourselves, deliver what we promise and act with a high degree of integrity.
Notable campaigns you’ve worked on:
I have been working in the startup sector for the last nine years and have had the good fortune to work at the absolute beginning of new brands. Remarkably, the development of the brand and app design led to 86,400, a smart digital bank now owned by NAB.
Who has been a good mentor to you and why?
Fleur Brown. I have had the pleasure of engaging in Fleur many times throughout my career, especially in the tech startup sector. Her passion for women’s progress, innovative innovation and great bold challenges is unmatched.
Advice for someone who wants a job like yours?
Be curious, do not be afraid to constructively challenge ideas and ways of working, and always seem to be involved in big, game-changing initiatives. You learn faster!
If I did not do this to live, I would be:
Writing a book of short stories about people who like to be the last out of intense situations.
My mantra is:
“Share your ideas without fear”. Never fear that someone will judge you or steal your idea. Ideas are easy. Execution is tough.
My favorite ad is:
Must be Maccas and Menulog’s partnership ad with Snoop Dogg. Love it!
