Mail Rail occasionally resumes walks through the old railway tunnels and adds an extra detour for Christmas to a part that is not normally accessible.

During the tour through the tunnels, guides will reveal stories about the underground railway from over 100 years – from the construction in the early 1900s, through the heyday in the middle of the century to the final closure in 2003.

The party tunnel takes a detour and explores a loop of the tunnels not normally accessible on the museum’s tunnel walks – this is the part of the tunnel that was painted white by the post office staff and then decorated to create a Christmas party trip for the post office staff when the line was open . It is usually not included in the tunnel tours.

This site has been running for a little over a decade now, and although advertising revenue helps fund the site, it does not cover the cost. Therefore, I have created a facility with DonorBox where you can contribute to the cost of the site and time invested in writing and researching the news articles.

It’s very similar to the way The Guardian and many smaller sites now seek to generate revenue in the face of rising costs and declining advertising.

Whether it’s a one-time donation or a regular donor, every extra support goes a long way to cover the running costs of this site and keeps you regularly filled with doses of news and facts in London.

If you like what you read here, please support the site here.

thank you
