One person has died on the train tracks at a station in south Manchester.

Rescue services were called to the incident at Levenshulme station around 20.35 last night (Thursday).

They found an injured person on the rails.

Paramedics were dispatched to the scene but unfortunately the person was pronounced dead.

No further information about the person’s gender or age has been released yet.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be passed on to the coroner, a spokesman for British transport police said.

The train lines between Manchester Piccadilly and Stockport were blocked from around 1 p.m. 20.30 last night.

In a tweet, TfGM said: “Rail services are currently unable to run between Manchester Piccadilly and Stockport.

“This is because the emergency services handle an ongoing incident.

“Plan ahead, and allow extra time.”

The line was reopened around 12.30 this morning.

In a statement, a spokesman for the British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Levenshulme station at 8.35pm last night (October 7) following reports of a rail accident.

Paramedics also attended, but unfortunately one person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the death doctor.”
