POLICE have issued an urgent appeal to help find a schoolgirl who ran away “in distress” at a train station in London.

The young man, believed to be around 10 or 11 years old, was found by a member of the public at Ladywell Station in Lewisham around noon. 20.45 Friday night.

The boy, wearing a black hooded jacket and trousers, then ran away.

Police are now eager to find him, saying they are “concerned for his welfare” after the mysterious encounter.

The force released a CCTV image asking the public to help identify the young man.

The grainy picture appears to show him walking through the station Friday night.

The Lewisham Metropolitan Police Service said in a tweet: “Can you help us identify this young man?

“Suspect aged 11/12 – found by public member at #Ladywell BR Station at 2045 last night and seemed to be in distress.

“He then ran away. The police worried about his welfare and want to make sure he’s ok.”
