Abel Tesfaye, the R&B star better known as Weeknd, has spent $ 70 million on a gorgeous Bel Air mansion that generated one of the biggest deals closed in Los Angeles so far this year.

The sellers, Dutch media entrepreneur Reinout Oerlemans and his wife Danielle Oerlemans, said they had no plans to sell their newly renovated home until real estate agents Rayni and Branden Williams of Beverly Hills Estates approached them to show it to the music star.

Danielle Oerlemans oversaw a complete redesign of the property. A living room has orange walls and a fireplace in black stone.

Mrs Williams said she knew Tesfaye was looking for a new home and thought this property would fit his criteria perfectly. The Oerlemans initially resisted, but came eventually, she said. The home was sold in an off-market agreement.

The approximately 33,000 square meter mansion, which sits on approximately 1.6 hectares overlooking the prestigious Bel-Air Country Club, has nine bedrooms and includes a wide range of facilities, including a sports court, a spa with a sauna, a Turkish bath, an indoor pool, an outdoor infinity pool with a waterfall, a movie theater, a gym, and a music studio.

The home is modern and dramatic. It has a large living room and entertaining space with spray-painted high-gloss orange walls and a black fireplace, an industrial-style office and a formal dining room with fireplace and suitcase ceilings. In the kitchen there are copper cabinets with custom handles made of leather belts.

The house recently underwent an approximately three-year renovation of Oerlemanses, which shows that bought the house for $ 21.44 million in 2015. Mr. Oerlemans said the home was “terrible” in terms of decor when they bought it, but he saw good bones and loved the location.

Mrs. Oerlemans completely redesigned the interior, worked with one of her favorite interior designers, and imported modern furniture from around the world, including from the couple’s original Holland. They added an additional approximately 13,000 square feet to the property to make room for the spa and other amenities.

Sir. Oerlemans said he has worked in the media and entertainment industry for 25 years. He started his career as an actor and on-air host in Europe, but later switched to directing and producing. He founded his own production company, Eyeworks, in 2001 and sold it to Warner Bros. in 2014. Ms. Oerlemans is a former competitive cyclist.

The agreement follows the sale of Mr. Tesfaye’s former home in the Hidden Hills area of Los Angeles, which Madonna bought for nearly $ 20 million earlier this year, according to a person familiar with the deal.

A representative of Mr. Tesfaye was not immediately available for comment. Williams said the musician was represented by Angel Salvador of Beverly Hills Estates.

Raised in Canada by Ethiopian parents, Tesfaye, 31, became famous in the mid-2010s. His most famous hits include “Can’t Feel My Face” and “Blinding Lights.”

The property overlooks the golf course at Bel Air Country Club.
