Suspected of sexually assaulted

Vancouver police have arrested after a disturbing attack on a woman at a bus stop in East Vancouver.

Earlier this week, a 22-year-old woman was approached by a man while waiting for a bus near Knight Street and East 57th Avenue. The man proposed to her for sex, and when she refused, he kicked her from behind and knocked her to the ground.

“An alarm guard at the Pacific Center Mall recognized the suspect from yesterday’s press release and immediately called police,” said Constable Tania Visintin, VPD.

“The man showed the woman a condom and a pornographic image on his phone before proposing her for sex,” according to a statement from Vancouver police Thursday.

“The violent and sexual nature of this incident has been of great concern to public safety,” Sergeant Steve Addison said at the time. “We are telling the public about this case because we are concerned that someone else could be harmed.”

The 21-year-old suspect is currently in custody. The investigation is ongoing.
