Construction is rising on 14 Second Avenue, a ten-story residential building in the East Village. Designed by David Cutler of Hustvedt Cutler Architects and developed by Daniel Vislocky of Station Companies, the 100-foot-tall, 22,247-square-foot development will yield ten units averaging 1,685 square feet each. The property is also expected to have two basement levels and a 30 foot long backyard. The New Empire Building Corporation is the main contractor for the project, which is narrowly sandwiched between First State Green Cultural Park and a series of low-rise buildings between East Houston and East 1st Streets.

Recent photos show the second level in the process of being built with the concrete formwork for the perimeter columns on the ground floor in place. Steel bars stand beyond the second floor, waiting for the next concrete slope to form the outer and inner walls and columns. So far, the building remains fairly conspicuous, but will soon overshadow the height of the adjacent residential neighbors and the tree line of First State Green Cultural Park.

Meanwhile, a preliminary rendering of the site was presented, showing a rather simple fa├žade of bright and black-colored metal panels scattered between tall windows. A small setback on the north side lined with glass railings is depicted on the ninth floor of the building, which culminates in a mechanical extension with another setback on the western main profile.

The local F train is located across the west at Second Avenue station. Retail, entertainment and dining options abound in the East Village and the adjacent neighborhoods of the Lower East Side, Bowery and Noho.

14 Second Avenue is scheduled for completion in July 2022, as indicated on the construction board.
