Other DC teams plan to follow suit. Mayor Muriel Bowser said at a news conference Monday that teams on March 22 could apply for a waiver to allow fans to return for the first time since venues went dark in March 2020.

The Caps and Wizards are planning to apply for a waiver, Monumental Sports & Entertainment Director Monica Dixon said in a statement: safe to allow fans to return to the arena. We appreciate the diligence of Mayor Bowser and her administration through this process. ”

If citizens were to apply, Bowser said Monday, they could host as many as 5,000 people on the opening day on May 1st. A citizen’s spokesman has not yet responded to a request from Washingtoniansk whether the team had applied for dispensation yet.
