The Calgary Police Service’s homicide unit is investigating how two men are connected after one was killed and another was sent to hospital after a shooting outside a downtown nightclub early Sunday morning.

Police were called to the Junction Underground just before noon. 02.45 for reports that someone had been shot outside the bar located on 8th Avenue southwest.

When police arrived, they found a man in his 30s who was in “serious medical distress.” He was sent to hospital in a life-threatening condition, where he died shortly after, police said in a press release.

While the man was being transported to the hospital, officers secured the spot and searched for suspects in the area. When police searched, another man in his 30s arrived at Foothills Medical Center with gunshot wounds, police said.

Calgary police officers were called to the hospital and believe the man is connected to the shooting. He remains in hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, police said.

– It is very early in the investigation, and we are working to determine what happened and how the two men are connected, the police say in the press release.

The victim’s identity can only be released after an autopsy, which is scheduled for early next week, police said. More information will be shared when known.

As of 10:45 a.m. Sunday, 8th Avenue Southwest, between 5th Street Southwest and 6th Street Southwest, is closed to traffic so police can continue investigating.
