Paul McCartney has taken to Instagram yesterday to honor John Lennon on what would have been the music icon’s 81st birthday.
The black-and-white photo shows the two Beatles stars playing around with guitars in hand. McCartney shared the rare picture with the caption “Happy Birthday to John – Paul”.
McCartney was not the only person to pay tribute to the ‘Imagine’ singer.
Lennon, who was tragically murdered at the age of 40 by Mark Chapman, is fondly remembered by his wife Yoko Ono in a touching photo, where he is pictured with son Sean blowing birthday candles. Lennon and his son share a birthday.
“Happy Birthday John! Happy Birthday Sean!” Ono wrote. “I love you!”
In December last year, Ono took to twitter to honor Lennon at the age of 40 before his death.
Next to a statistic on gun violence, she wrote: “The death of a loved one is a hollow experience. After 40 years, Sean, Julian and I still miss him. ‘Imagine all people living life in peace.'”
McCartney also paid tribute to the singer, share a picture of the couple with the caption “A sad sad day, but remember my friend John with the great joy he brought into the world. I will always be proud and happy to have known and worked with this incredible Scouser!”
