A 19-year-old woman was followed then assaulted by a man in a park, police said.

A picture of a man police want to talk to has been released.

Greater Manchester Police have issued a public appeal to anyone with information to come forward.

The woman escaped unharmed, police added.

The incident happened in Birchfields Park, near Longsight in Manchester, on Wednesday, September 8 at. 11.30, but details have only just been released.

In a statement, the GMP said: “Officers have posted a picture of a man they would like to talk to in connection with an assault in Manchester.

“Officers were alerted to the fact that a 19-year-old woman had been followed and then assaulted in Birchfields Park, near Longsight.

“Fortunately, the victim was not injured, and officers believe the attack was an isolated incident.”

PC Jonathan Sharples, of the Longsight Neighborhood Policing Team, said the victim was ‘physically assaulted’.

No other reports of other similar incidents have been received.

PC Sharples said: “During this incident, the perpetrator targeted and followed the victim in Birchfields Park and then physically assaulted her.

“Fortunately, there have been no reports of similar incidents in the area.

“We will ask anyone who recognizes the man to contact us.”
