Woman wakes up to a rum stone on her pillow and hole in her roofRuth Hamilton via Castlegar News

A woman in British Columbia recently woke up to find a rum stone on her pillow and a hole in her ceiling.

Ruth Hamilton, from Golden, had been hidden in bed asleep when a meteor lit up the sky over Lake Louise and fascinated local residents.

However, she was quickly awakened by something crashing into the bedroom ceiling, and dirt suddenly covered her face.

Ruth was confused at first and could not figure out ‘what the hell had happened’ and told Castlegar News, ‘I just jumped up and turned on the light’.

After looking around, Ruth realized that there was a pretty hefty rock sitting on her pillow, in the exact same spot where she would normally rest her head.

A police officer who responded to Ruth’s call from 911 confirmed that the rock was not due to the ongoing construction underway at Kicking Horse Canyon. It was at this point that they realized that the meteorite had actually crashed through her roof.

Ruth told the publication:

We called the Canyon project to see if they were making explosions, and they were not, but they said they had seen a bright light in the sky that had exploded and caused some barriers.

I was shaking and scared when it happened I thought someone had jumped in or it was a gun or something. It’s almost a relief when we realized it could only have fallen out of the sky.

Ruth reflected on her alarmingly close shave and said:

The only other thing I can think of to say is that life is precious and it can be gone at any time even if you think you are safe and secure in your bed. I hope I never ever take it for granted again.

Fortunately, Ruth was not injured by the incident and plans to keep the rock as a memorial. Her grandchildren are also reportedly pretty impressed.
