Ian Thorpe is left red in the face at Celebrity MasterChef Australia as his cooking past is revealed … leaving his contestants

Swimming legend Ian Thorpe was left red-haired at the launch of Celebrity MasterChef Australia on Sunday after his secret cooking past was revealed.

During the episode, the 38-year-old had revealed with certainty that he would be ‘very competitive’ in the competition, having won five gold medals at the Olympics.

But just seconds later, judge Jock Zonfrillo pointed out that Ian’s talents are not just in the swimming pool – and warned the other contestants that he is in fact the author of a cookbook.

‘Correct me if I’m wrong, but you have your own cookbook, right?’ Said Jock, making the whole room gasp in shock.

After Ian cheekily smiled and confirmed the news, progeny actor Matt Le Nevez shouted jokingly: ‘Where are the producers! Please wait!’

He then signaled a time-out with his hands, while designer Collette Dinnigan’s jaw dropped in surprise.

The swimmer has not just one cookbook, but two under his belt.

His first book, Cook For Your Life, was published in 2011. Another, entitled Eat Well Now, was later published in 2016.

An overview of the first book reads: ‘… Now that he no longer swims competitively or trains for hours, he has been able to apply everything he has learned to his diet and health.’

That would mean Ian has definitely got the edge when it comes to competition, along with famed chef Gordon Ramsay’s younger daughter, Tilly.

Ian is competing in the new season among people like Chrissie Swan, Rebecca Gibney, Dami Im and Nick Riewoldt.

Celebrity MasterChef Australia continues on Monday at. 19:30 on Channel 10
