A Kmart shopper has been protected after sharing a photograph of the birthday present she gave her 15-year-old stepson.
The release on a popular Facebook page revealed the stepmother how she used Kmarts DIY Letter Board to create a fun gift that incorporated cash and gift cards for multiple stores.
But it was the inclusion of a $ 30 gift card to spend on Smokecart, Australia’s “number one tobacco retailer”, which drew criticism from some social media users.
While the chain store sells a wide variety of gifts, toys, household items and clothing, it is also known for its wide selection of cigarettes, fumes and tobacco products.
The gift card caused several Facebook users to raise questions about the present.
“Sorry, but are you giving a 15-year-old a Smokemart gift card? Classy, ”wrote a Facebook user on the Kmart Home Decor and Hacks Australia Facebook page.

Added another: “I think it’s great that you made him this, and it’s a thoughtful gift, but I probably would not have given the Smokemart voucher even if they sell other things. He’s a teenage boy, and the temptation to buy cigarettes is there. ”
The stepmother, however, was quick to defend the gift and repulsed the criticism.
“I love that you’re worried about him, but he actually bought no smoke from there, I went down with him and he chose a GIFT of his choice,” she said.
‘Find out the facts first!’
“So the next time you want to poke your nose into someone else’s business, first find out the facts!”
Hundreds of other Kmart fans also jumped to her defense, pointing out that Smokemart sells a wide variety of purchases – not just tobacco products.
“I buy lots of gifts from Smokemart. It’s my go-to when I’m a little stuck on a gift for someone. It looks fantastic! Said one.
Added another: “The people who fart in the gift, have you actually been inside a Smokemart? Take a look and you will see exactly why a 15 year old boy would love it. I’m 48, and I do. ”

Said a third: “GOODNESS, why should people be so judgmental? Our local tobacco retailer sells birthday cards, paper, teddy bears and much much more. ”
Others pointed out that people under the age of 18 are not allowed to buy tobacco products under Australian law.
“My brain hurts that some adults seem to think that a 15-year-old would physically be able to buy smoke, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha far out,” one said.
A Smokemart employee also weighed in on the debate, saying many teens shop there.
“Just come here to say I work for Smokemart and have for almost five years, we are definitely selling very very much much more than tobacco and fumes,” she said.
“If not my trauma from pallet deliveries at Christmas time with stock must be false. He can score a pretty sick lava lamp or a board game for $ 30! ”
