(NASA) – The launch of NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope, the leading space observatory for the next decade and an international partnership with ESA and the Canadian Space Agency, is scheduled for launch on 18 December.

ESA will provide launch services for the mission as Webb launches on an Arianespace Ariane 5 rocket from Europe’s spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana, on the northeast coast of South America.

The Webb Space Telescope will explore every phase of cosmic history – from our solar system to the most distant observable galaxies in the early universe and everything in between.

Webb will reveal new and unexpected discoveries and help humanity understand the origin of the universe and our place in it.
