Jesse Lingard has become a transfer target for Barcelona and AC Milan, where his Manchester United contract expires at the end of the current season.

The 28-year-old is in the final year of his contract at Old Trafford and has yet to sign a new deal, despite the club offering him improved terms.

The English national team player has rejected the offer because he is worried about the playing time under Ole Gunnar Solskjær and does not feel that proper insurance has been given.

Lingard spent the second half of last season on loan at West Ham because he was not involved at Old Trafford, and despite performing excellently for the Hammers, he is still struggling to get into the starting XI under Solskjær.

The midfielder has only played three Premier League matches so far this season, all from the bench, and despite scoring in two of those matches, he is still not expected to play regularly.

His stance on a new contract has attracted a lot of attention, as West Ham and Newcastle United are likely to be interested, while attention comes from a few European giants.

ESPN reports that both Barcelona and AC Milan would be keen to pick up Lingard on a free transfer next summer when his Manchester United contract ends.

Clubs outside England have free negotiations with Lingard from January 1 with a free transfer in mind in the summer.

Barcelona continue to go through terrible financial problems and the chance to pick up an established international player on a free transfer may turn out to be missed for them.

But no matter where Lingard signs, he would look for the same assurances he has requested at Manchester United, with first-team football his priority.
