Winter is coming, but the new Bose SoundLink Flex Bluetooth speaker is not a hassle. The portable speaker has a robust design that is waterproof IP67 and hard enough to withstand all kinds of weather.
It’s been a while since Bose launched a brand new wireless speaker, so Flex is a big thing. Bose has plugged the device with two opposing passive radiators that deliver “deep, rich tones”, while the new proprietary Bose PositionIQ tech automatically detects speaker orientation and ensures true-to-life sound, whether the Flex hangs on the loop or lies flat.
This is also not your average waterproof speaker. Bose has finished the case in a super hard powder coating that is resistant to UV light and corrosion, so it does not peel or flake in blistering sun or icy conditions. SoundLink Flex also floats, so it does not matter if you drop it in the pool or the sea.
SoundLink Flex can remember up to eight recently connected Bluetooth devices, so it should be easy to switch between the phones, tablets and laptops that point to most households. Battery life is required 12 hours (same as Bose SoundLink Revolve 2019).
The speaker can be controlled via the Bose Connect app or the physical buttons on the speaker. There is no built-in voice assistant, but you can access the phone’s voice assistant and answer calls through the built-in microphone. Do you want to increase the volume? It is possible to pair SoundLink Flex with another Bose Bluetooth speaker for stereo sound or simultaneous playback.
How will Bose’s compact 20 cm x 9 cm x 5 cm compare to the best waterproof speakers on the market today? It remains to be seen, but if you’re tempted by this weatherproof marvel, it’s out in the US priced at $ 149.99 (around £ 120 / AU $ 220). Bose has not yet confirmed SoundLink Flex in the UK or later.
