Ontario’s new digital app to verify a person’s COVID-19 vaccination status can now be downloaded.

The app quietly popped up in Apple and Google app stores on Thursday. The Ford government previously said the app would be launched on October 22, but officials did not confirm when it could be downloaded.

Prime Minister Doug Ford and members of his government will officially unveil the app at a news conference on Friday.

A spokesman for the Ford government said the app was available for download to ensure it was available to businesses and organizations on Friday.

The app will primarily be used by companies and organizations to scan QR codes for fully vaccinated patrons. These QR codes will be provided by the Ontario Department of Health, similar to the process of vaccination receipts.

While the digital service will be available on October 22, people still have the opportunity to view their original vaccination receipts.
