The body of a man has been pulled from a canal in Greater Manchester this morning.

Police were alerted to the body in the water of the Bridgewater Canal around 7:40 p.m.

Officers walked to the towpath near Marsland Road in Sale, and later confirmed they had recovered the man.

A row of police cars and two ambulances with quick response
was pictured at the Brooklands Metrolink stop.

A path leading down the canal and a section of Bridgewater Way remained
cordoned off by the police.

The incident caused delays in morning traffic on Marsland Road.

Greater Manchester Police said: ‘We were called at 7.40am on Thursday
October 14 to a report on a corpse in the canal near Marsland Bridge,
Sales.

‘Police and GMFRS responded and a man was unfortunately confirmed dead on the spot.

‘Investigation is underway to identify the man and the circumstances
behind the incident.

‘It is not believed to be suspicious circumstances at present.’
