A large number of police are searching homes in London after the assassination of Southend MP Sir David Amess.

Anti-terrorism officers have searched three properties following the killing of longtime Tory MP.

It is believed that the suspect is Ali Harbi Ali, who lives in north London and is being tested after MP, 69, was stabbed to death on Friday.

Chelmsford Weekly News:

At least three police officers were seen entering the apartment. The three officers wore blue uniforms and blue gloves while being accompanied by a fourth man in plain clothes.

The officers have been seen walking in and out of the property during the morning.

Meanwhile, two police officers guard the property outside.

Chelmsford Weekly News:

Scotland Yard detectives yesterday had another six days to question him under the Terrorism Act so they could hold him until Friday.

The Met said: “Late on Friday, while in police custody, the man was subsequently detained under section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000 and he is now being held at a police station in London.

“On Saturday, detectives received an order for further detention at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, which allowed them to keep the man in custody until Oct. 22, when the order expires.”
