Improvements to two of the busiest off-road cycling routes in Manchester have been approved.
The council’s executive rubber-stamped plans to bring the Fallowfield Loop and Yellow Brick Road bike lanes up to the Bee Network standard — with safety improvements, better access and lighting.
The Fallowfield Loop line connects eight Manchester divisions. The Yellow Brick Road line connects two.
Improvements will be funded in part by money from the mayor’s challenge fund as well as input from the Manchester Council’s budget of £ 375,000 this financial year and a further £ 3,341m. Pounds from the financial year’s budget 2022/23.
Deputy Director Coun Bev Craig, who introduced the scheme at the most recent Executive Board meeting, said: “I know there has been extensive work to reach out to the public, to community groups, to residents and to have some really open discussions about what people are using it for. , and what it could be better used for in the future.
“It’s good to see the investment that goes into this. Over lockdown, the user ship has gone through the roof. It’s great to see people have told us they want an investment in what we have been able to look at how we can deliver it and there will be some exciting plans that will be put forward in the new years around how it will be delivered. ”
