Edinson Cavani is back in the Manchester United squad for Wednesday’s match against Atalanta.
United return to the Champions League competition with a visit by Serie A side Atalanta at Old Trafford as they appear to be arresting their terrible decline in form.
Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s team has managed only two victories in their last seven excursions, but can jump the free-scoring Italians to the top of Group F with one victory.
Although Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial remain on the sidelines with injuries intercepted internationally, United have been elated by Cavani’s return.
The striker was unavailable for Saturday’s defeat to Leicester City as he was in action against Brazil as they hammered their side Uruguay 4-1 in a World Cup qualifier just 36 hours before kick-off.
Midfielder Fred also played in that match, picking up a fantastic assist for Neymar’s opening, and was expected to return tonight after being absent for the weekend.
However, he was not spotted by photographers when the rest of the team arrived at the Hyatt Hotel on Wednesday afternoon, though he probably traveled separately and that does not necessarily mean he will not be involved.
Since Fred has returned from a red list country, he can still play according to British Covid travel restrictions, but will have to travel for games separately.
“We lost no one else from the match due to injuries over the weekend,” Solskjær said prior to the match. “So we’re more or less a full squad. Raphael [Varane] of course not with us yet. Edinson [Cavani] and Peace is back available, which is good for us. “
Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford are also included once again after making their own comebacks after injuries at King Power Stadium.
Man United players discovered:
Goalkeepers: De Gea, Heaton, Henderson
Defenders: Maguire, Dalot, Telles, Bailly, Shaw, Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof
Midfielders: Fernandes, Van de Beek, McTominay, Matic, Mata
Attackers: Ronaldo, Lingard, Cavani, Elanga, Sancho, Elanga, Greenwood.
