Business groups in Victoria say Friday will be a holiday as some of the COVID restrictions are light

Reporting from ABC radio

From 18.00 on Friday, the border around Melbourne will be dropped so Victorians can travel anywhere in the state.

Masks are not required outdoors, and gyms, retail and entertainment are reopening with tightness leaders for those who are fully vaccinated.

It comes as the state is expected to reach its 80 percent fully vaccinated target by the end of the week, ahead of schedule.

The Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Paul Guerra says the relaxation will help set up many businesses ahead of high summer.

“It is important that we know that every business in the state from Friday can act viably and that regional and metropolitan Victoria will finally come back together.”

“For us, it means that team Victoria is back.

“We think Friday will be a champagne day for business, which will then create a spectacular summer.”
