A man whom police have described as “dangerous” to the public is on the run after cutting off his ankle monitor and leaving his home last night.

Mostafa Baluch, from Sydney’s northern beaches, is accused of being behind a major cocaine shipment to Australia.

The 33-year-old was arrested at his Bayview mansion on the waterfront back in June on charges of steroids, but police suspected he was involved in the biggest conspiracy ever to import cocaine into Sydney, including 900 kilos seized out for Ecuador.

That same month, Baluch was arrested again in prison, charged with financing this $ 270 million consignment.

Baluch was granted a local court bail last Thursday and walked out of jail after losing his $ 4 million property and agreeing to wear an electronic surveillance anklet.

“Cutting the bracelet off your ankle, which has been imposed by the court, shows a very serious intent to flee,” Organized Crime Squad Commander Detective Superintendent Rob Critchlow said today.

“When we answered – which was very very fast – he was nowhere to be seen.”

Detective Critchlow said Baluch is “a very dangerous offender” and that any member of the public who sees him should call the police immediately.

“This person is a dangerous man, they should not approach him if they see him.

“He has a very serious criminal history and we are concerned about the public that this man is at large.”

Between 6pm and 10pm yesterday, the tracking unit placed him at his family’s restaurant Lucky and Peps in Newport.

At 22.28 the signal went dead, informing the police that the ankle had been cut off.

The tracker was found on Cabbage Tree Road outside the Bayview Golf Course.

He was last seen on Pittwater Road in Bayview around 6 p.m. 22.40, and detectives believe he could travel in this 2019 Mercedes with rego EJ V5 9H.

Police believe Baluch suspected he was being taken back into custody and therefore fled.

Detective Inspector Critchlow said Baluch’s family is cooperating, but he has deep pockets and links to other characters who may be helping him hide.

Baluch is described as being of Mediterranean / Middle Eastern appearance, about 180 cm tall, of a muscular build, with black hair, brown eyes and unshaven.
