Good day to you and welcome to our live coverage of the Melbourne Cup. Do you feel encouraged today? It’s the bookmakers for sure – the Peter Moody – trained stayer is one of the cheapest favorites since Phar Lap over the 3,200 mi Flemington. And the Australian is probably more of a chance as only a few internationals run, opening up the field for locally trained horses.

As always, the Cup is a day of conflict for many, and animal welfare groups camp outside the racetrack and protest against the treatment of horses in the racing industry. The first Tuesday in November has become more and more polarizing in recent years due to the growing list of horse deaths. In last year’s race, Anthony Van Dyck collapsed and was later killed, and has since been shown to have been lame before he ran.

We will cover it all, and would appreciate your thoughts on all of the above.

The main race starts at 15 AEDT, but I want to be here every now and then for the undercards and of course some fash-ahn. Yay. Or should I say, neighbor.
