UPDATE: No suspected cannabis eateries in a Huron County trick-or-treat bag

Huron County provincial police say they have ruled out the possibility that suspicious-looking candy found in a trick-or-treat bag is cannabis edible.

On Monday, police issued a warning to residents after a package of suspected cannabis eateries was found by a resident of Howick. Investigators say the questionable-looking gums were found in a small, odor-proof bag commonly used to store candy with cannabis.

Late Monday night, investigators said they spoke to the person handing out the treats and determined they were just candy.

“As a result of an earlier media release seeking information, the person who distributed the Halloween candy bag contacted Huron OPP,” police said in a statement. “Police met with the person and have since learned that about 25 similar bags were handed out.”

OPP still recommends parents or guardians thoroughly check their child’s Halloween candy before ingestion, and if there is any uncertainty, discard the items.
