Wannabe Corrie stars plaster face on Media City billboard in an attempt to be cast in the soap

A hopeful Corrie star has plastered his face on a billboard in Media City in an attempt to get thrown in the soap.

Mariama Binta Bojang, 27, took action after struggling to find roles despite 100 auditions in the last seven months.

In a desperate attempt to find work, she paid £ 1,000 for two billboards – one close to the Salford studios, where Coronation Street is located, and another in Leeds, next to the Emmerdale stage.

The 48-sheet 6m by 3m billboard shows her photo, contact information and says “Articulated Autistic Actor – Cast Now!”.

Mariama from Lindley, West Yorkshire, said: “Seeing myself on a billboard felt surreal and exciting!

“The idea struck me like lightning one evening when I was at home, considering what else I could do to boost my profile.

“Posting and tagging on social media seemed to only promote personal branding so much.

“Acting is a business and requires clever PR as much as talent and hard work.

“I contacted several media companies for consultations and concluded that a 48-sheet static billboard next to a well-known TV studio for two full weeks would be the best opportunity to advertise myself on a larger scale.

“I did not feel at all strange at seeing the board – I felt proud and accomplished, probably more than when I first saw myself on television!”

Mariama started acting when she was three after her mother enrolled her at Annie Inglis Acting School.

One of the billboards is in Leeds, while the other is in Salford’s MediaCity

Her most prominent role was a police officer in series two of ITV’s Prey in 2015.

Since then, she has struggled to find work in TV shows again and has instead stood as a model.

Mariama said: “I specifically requested that the ad be shown alongside ITV’s ‘Emmerdale’ studios, as it is more likely to reach my intended audience – casting directors and producers of the show.

“Since it’s on a static billboard instead of digital, it will statistically also receive more views.

Maria’s most prominent role was a police officer in series two of ITV’s Prey in 2015.

“I have not yet had the privilege of auditioning for a role in any soap opera, but if I had a choice, my personal preference would be ‘Coronation Street’ followed by ‘Emmerdale’.

“They are the country’s longest running and most famous soaps, which brought me great joy and comfort in my upbringing.”
