Cameron Munster has ‘new life’ after a month in rehab, Storm says

Cameron Munster has a “new life” and will leave rehabilitation this weekend, says Melbourne Storm chairman Matt Tripp.

Talking to Sydney Morning Herald, Tripp declared that the Storm “could not be more pleased” with the progress Munster has shown since joining a rehabilitation program for alcohol problems a month ago, following the fallout from the party video scandal.

Munster voluntarily admitted himself to the facility after the scandal that followed Storms exit from the final.

He was banned for a game and fined $ 30,000 by the NRL, while Melbourne beat him with a suspended fine of $ 100,000, removed him from the management team and imposed a 12-month alcohol ban.

“He called me yesterday and he sounded great,” Tripp said.

“I could not be more pleased with his progress. He is really excited to get into the pre-season with the boys and get back to Melbourne.

“He’s in a really good headspace – that’s actually the best I’ve heard him. He wants some family time and he’s expecting a baby in December with his partner (Bianca).

“I just think he’s got a new life. It’s helped him no end. We still have a long way to go, do not get me wrong, in the form of him ticking all the boxes to be right for round two next year , but the early signs are amazing.

“If I prepared him for a Melbourne Cup, you could say he is doing really well in the early stages of his preparation.

“They’re fine-tuned athletes, you want them right when the whips break, and it’s going to be March next year where we want him ready.”

According to the Herald, Storm has hired a psychologist to help Munster stay on a healthy path.

Tripp closed the rumor that Munster is a target for the 17th NRL franchise, emphasizing that he is signed to Melbourne until the end of 2023 – the Dolphins’ inaugural season.

“He has contracted with us, it is not even a conversation, it has not been one, and it will not be,” he said.
