Two new portals for Upside Down have just opened in New York and Los Angeles.
Netflix has launched a few Stranger Things-theme interactive shopping pop-ups and PEOPLE got a first look at the completely immersive experiences.
The two stores located in Times Square in NYC and The Americana on Brand in LA are much more than a chance to fill up on swag. They incorporate recreated sets, installations and challenges that fans can engage in – and lots of photo ops.
A preview of the New York store on Tuesday began with a walk through a bright red entrance that evoked the show’s famous opening lyrics and transported visitors into several of the series’ most famous scenes.

There’s the Byers family’s living room, complete with Joyce’s alphabet and light chains that spell “RUN,” and a rotating telephone where visitors can hear a creepy, encrypted message from her son Will. In addition, guests will find the Palace Arcade, where they can play classic games; Hawkins High dressed up for Snow Ball, the Russian lab and of course Starcourt Mall.
All spaces are filled with merch from the show – from clothing to themed board games – some of which are exclusive to these stores, as well as iconic 1980s products such as Big League Chew and Rock ‘Em Sock’ Em Robots.
In addition to the opportunity to scoop up some unique swag, the stores also offer several interactive components: Visitors can break a code to open the bride to Upside Down in the lab or design their own retro-style t-shirt in the arcade.
The highlight, however, occurs every 20 minutes and takes over the entire store when the light begins to flicker and everything undergoes a hair-raising transformation that fans themselves must see.
Tickets are free and walk-ins are welcome, but admission is only guaranteed for those who make a reservation online at strangerthings-store.com.
