John Lewis’ annual Christmas commercial is the pinnacle of every Christmas season – and it looks like 2021’s campaign is set to shock Christmas lovers.
Every year, consumers across the nation wait with bated breath to see what tearful and inspiring themes John Lewis’ marketing snuff has come up with.
And if the mysterious installations scattered across London and Newcastle are anything to go by, it’s likely this year’s ad will be better than ever.
Much like every year, the ad has been kept hidden, but the John Lewis team seems to have teased a number of mysterious themes in London and Newcastle, as head-scratching installations can be found at random locations in the city streets.
A number of eagle-eyed fans have been looking forward to seeing what they have been guessing at are “UFO crash landings” in London’s Southbank and Newcastle’s Northumberland Street.
When sharing snaps of the seemingly random installations, social media users have started getting the buzz of Christmas lovers as they shared snaps of the signs that lay next to the mysterious works of art.
Both London and Newcastle ‘crash landings’ have signs that say: “Christmas lands 04/11/21 #UnexpectedGuest”.
While the installations have brought joy among John Lewis’ Christmas ad fans, a spokesman for the brand has apparently tried to dispel the speculation.
“Speculation about our Christmas ad is always out of this world,” they insisted.
While the infamous John Lewis ad is generally launching its festive campaign around mid-November, this year there has been speculation that the ad will hit the screen a week or two earlier.
Due to the fact that the installations say that ‘Christmas is coming on November 4th’, it is possible that the ad will be sent this week.
The soundtrack to the 2021 campaign has also been a big talk in recent weeks.
Every year, a famous singer can be heard singing a Christmas-related tune in the soundtrack of the ad.
And this year, big stars including Adele, Dua Lipa and Ed Sheeran have all been tipped as potential singers.
Previous years suggest that the John Lewis Christmas ad is first launched on the retailer’s social media channels and then makes its TV debut on ITV.
The Mirror has contacted a John Lewis spokesman to comment on this story.
