The Los Angeles Chargers are finally adjusting to their new home market, with a new headquarters on the way in El Segundo, just a few miles from their home ground at SoFi Stadium.

Two real estate companies based in El Segundo, Continental Development and Mar Ventures, will build a 145,000-square-foot, 14-acre facility for the NFL team. The project is expected to open in early 2024, the companies announced on Monday. The Los Angeles Times first reported on the development.

Earth is on Nash Street, near 105 Freeway; it is currently used as a parking lot for the defense company Raytheon.

The complex will be valued at more than $ 100 million, Continental President Richard Lundquist told the Times.

Chargers moved to Los Angeles from San Diego in 2017 and had rented a facility in the Orange County town of Costa Mesa, about 40 miles from a temporary home stadium at Dignity Health Field in Carson.

The team will rent the new headquarters and training facility – just about five miles from its recently completed permanent home ground at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood – by the developers when construction is complete.

The facility will include offices, meeting rooms, medical and rehabilitation facilities, esports games and content studios, a 3,100 square meter media center and a roof terrace.

In addition to the new building, developers will build three natural turf pitches, 3,400 square feet of outdoor grassland, grandstand seating for more than 5,000 people and a two-track pool.

Gensler Sports designs the entire project.

Continental and Mar Ventures are due to present the plans to the city of El Segundo’s Planning Commission later this month.

Chargers is not the only major sports team to have planted a flag in El Segundo. The LA Lakers NBA team has a 122,000-square-foot facility, and the LA Kings hockey team has a 135,000-square-foot gym in the city.
