Newly elected Mayor Eric Adams promises ‘reset’ for NYC at celeb-filled VIP party

Elected Mayor Eric Adams received applause from Big Apple greats like Oscar winner Forest Whitaker and former Google boss Eric Schmidt at an election night’s VIP party where he promised to embrace the city’s financial leaders.

“Can we hit reset with our business? May I tell you that this will be one of the most business-friendly cities?” Adams said to enthusiastic applause from about 100 daring names on the smart Soho hotspot Zero Bond.

The outgoing president of the Brooklyn borough and former police officer – who threw his GOP opponent Curtis Sliwa – also promised to use the city’s nearly $ 100 billion budget more sensibly.

“Year after year after year we take $ 97 billion and give you an inferior product and we have to behave as if everything is okay? Damn, that’s not okay,” Adams told guests who nodded after sushi and sliders.

Schmidt hailed Adams’ choice as “a big deal” and a “total shift from Mayor de Blasio” who once quoted Karl Marx for explaining his antipathy to the private sector.

“In my view of New York, New York does not work unless it grows because the cost is so high and the pressure is so great if you keep it flat that it does not handle it properly,” the technical titan said.

“So you have to have a growth mayor. He is clearly a pro-growth mayor, which is why the business community came out so strongly for him, ”Schmidt told The Post.

Madison Square Garden CEO James Dolan called Adams’ victory “a great start.”

“We really need the city to come back. It’s not back all the way. People are not in their offices, the tourists are not here yet.

“Thinking the way Eric thinks will get them back,” the Knicks and Rangers owner predicted.

Jefferies Financial Group CEO Rich Handler said Adams’ victory was much bigger than a coup for his industry.

“We need a mayor like Eric to make everyone tougher,” Handler said.

“I feel like he’s someone who wants to do it, and I’m really excited about a little bit of harmony, hard work together and building together, and if he can build those bridges, I’m totally into it,” the billionaire businessman said.

Whittaker, who won his Oscar for Best Actress for her performance in “The Last King of Scotland”, highlighted the future mayor’s story with rags to riches – he rose from deep poverty in Brownsville, Brooklyn to lead the country’s largest city.

“We have a leader who has a certain sense of community. He is someone who is part of the community. He is one who has experienced some of the greatest hardships the country has to offer, ”Whittaker said.

“Now we have someone who understands and who is empathetic. He will be able to work with us and lead us as a city,” the actor whispered.

Rapper Ja Rule could barely contain his enthusiasm for Adams.

“Oh man, we have a good one. We’ve got a great new mayor. He has a great plan for the city and I can not wait to see him implement it. That’s why I’m here to show f king respect and admiration for my brother.

“What is he, the other black mayor? That’s right, let’s get it done,” Ja Rule said as he posed for pictures with Adams’ son Jordan Coleman.

The elected mayor’s confidante, PR chief Ronn Torossian, compiled the VIP guest list, which included prominent New Yorkers from the city’s political, celebrity and business arenas. Other participants were City Council Chairman Corey Johnson, comedian Chris Rock and SoftBank Group International CEO Marcelo Claure.
