Read the angry email Lisa Wilkinson sent before she was fired from the Today show

Lisa Wilkinson has shared the angry email she sent before being fired from the Channel Nines Today show in her new autobiography, It Wasn’t Meant to Be Like This.

During her last day on the breakfast show, Lisa said she was’ quietly smoking ‘because’ almost every interview was performed by her co-host Karl Stefanovic alone. ‘

After the show ended, she hurried to former Today show boss Mark Calvert’s office to discuss whether it had been a ‘mistake’ – but he seemed to have gone to avoid her.

She said she waited for him for several hours before leaving for a doctor’s appointment, where she wrote the heated email.

‘I do not know what forced me, but when I was sitting in the doctor’s waiting room, I sent an e-mail to [her manager] Nick Fordham and [her husband] Pete FitzSimons, ‘she wrote.

Lisa’s furious email read: ‘Gunner, I’m going to take note of how the distribution of host roles goes between Karl and me in the coming weeks.’

‘Never know when I’ll need it as a record … This morning I did not have a single solo interview and even the ones Karl and I would normally do together had been given to Karl alone. The only thing I had was the ‘girls chat’ segment at. 8.40. What is this 1960s? ‘

Email: She then sent an email to her manager Nick Fordham asking: 'This morning I did not have a single solo interview and even the ones Karl and I would normally do together had been given to Karl alone. The only thing I had was the 'girls chat' segment at. 8.40. What is this 1960s? '

Later the same day, Lisa said she was shopping at her local Woolworths Supermarket when she received a phone call from her manager Nick, who had ended a meeting with Nine CEO Hugh Marks.

He told her she was ‘permanently away’ from the Today show and would never return.

“While this news of my firing was probably still a few hours from being published, the humiliation I felt at the time was overwhelming,” Lisa said.

After her exit, Marks publicly revealed that Wilkinson had asked for $ 2.3 million, which would have pushed her well above Stefanovic’s salary of $ 2 million.

But Wikinson has now publicly denied this in a new interview with ABC’s Radio National on Wednesday.

‘I have never asked for pay parity. I asked for a fairer share of the booty that came to a show that Karl and I had taken to number one, ‘she explained.

“I found out the salary Karl had from two separate sources … and the salary difference between the sexes was out of the charts.

‘The $ 2.3 million is a complete lie and has been constantly repeated – it’s a complete lie and I have all the emails to prove it.’

She also said the story about the salary was published in an attempt to make her look bad.

“That whole story was laid out to make me look greedy and as if I had risen above my station, but it was a story I at the time decided not to get involved in,” she explained.

Such discussions are quite inappropriate, they are quite awful, and I am the very first person to admit that when you make breakfast TV, you get a ridiculous salary.

“But what was even more ridiculous was the magnitude of the gender pay gap I had experienced for many, many years,” she concluded.

In the alt book, Lisa also claimed that her co-host Karl had given her the cold shoulder in the weeks before she retired.

The project host explained that she and her husband Peter had invited Karl and his partner Jasmine Yarbrough to attend their 25th wedding anniversary pledge renewal ceremony in October 2017.

Two days before the event, however, Karl and Jasmine contacted Lisa’s husband Peter to say they would not attend the festivities as they had extended their vacations abroad.

‘In the ten days ago [the ceremony] Karl had not contacted me at all, his co-host for almost eleven years. No phone message, no text, no apology, not even a simple congratulations. Just complete silence, ‘Lisa claimed.

After returning to work, Lisa claimed that Karl did not ask her about her vacations, nor did he apologize for being an “absence at the wedding” for the two hours before mentioning it on the air.

Karl then opened the show by welcoming Lisa back from her honeymoon after she and her husband Peter celebrated their 25th anniversary.

“We’re wearing P! Nk today, just so Lisa and her honeymoon return, Lisa, good morning to you,” Karl said as he opened the show before asking Lisa about her journey.

She then replied, ‘I did [have a wonderful time], Karl, but why should anyone worry about it when it’s news time. Sylvia, good morning. ‘

Lisa left Channel Nine’s Today show back in October 2017 after a reported conflict over pay gaps.

The Nine Network was ‘unable to live up to her expectations’ after she demanded equal pay with co-host Karl.

In January of the following year, Lisa joined rival network Ten’s The Project for a multi-million dollar rumor.
